I was walking into Save a lot in Athens and I saw a woman sitting at the picnic table on the sidewalk outside the store. She was holding her head in her hands and crying. A man in a Save a lot uniform was standing up, smoking, pacing and using degrading profanity towards her loudly in an aggressive verbal assault. I could hear him yelling at her from inside the store. As I was telling the woman at the checkout line my concerns, two women with a child came into complain as well as their young child was exposed to his abusive behavior and profanity. The woman at the check out said she would call the cops if he hit her and I said you need to call APD NOW since she is in immediate distress. I was really afraid to confront and record him because he seemed violent and out of control- I feared for my safety and hers. When I got home I called the store to speak to a manager and I was told that he is no longer an employee and that they did call law enforcement.
I’m just wondering if APD did anything at all about this. In my experience APD tends to blame the victim for sticking around to tolerate this abuse instead of focusing on the abuser. Did he get any consequence? Besides loosing his job?
I hope he got more than a conversation with police but since APD doesn’t post info on calls like the Sheriffs Department does how will we ever know what the results were. There needs to be more transparency by APD so that taxpayers can know what, if any action was taken.
